Henry Sleeman Penzance, Mahogany Bracket Clock, (Circa 1830).

   An extremely sound and fine veneered, mahogany case bracket clock on brass plinth and ball feet.

   The veneered mahogany case has quadrant brass inset recessed panels with mahogany veneer inserts, to the corners are brass inlaid stop chamfer angles and flower and line inlaid brass to the front of the plinth base, all of which surrounds the convexed glazed, brass bezel and dial, surmounted by a central pineapple finial on a solid mahogany gadrooned top.

    Brass, cornucopia horns, leaf paterae and ring carrying handles are to each side of the case with brass fish scale sound frets below, the brass backplate of the movement is highly polished and signed Henry Sleeman Penzance (see gallery below).

    An excellent eight day bell striking double fusee movement, has 4 turned pillars connecting the heavy plates with an anchor escapement and pull repeat facility to the left of the 8"(203mm) white enamel dial.

   Roman numerals and minute marks form the chapter of the dial complete with the original blued steel moon hands, signed HENy Sleeman (Henry Sleeman) above centre and Penzance below, a strike silent feature is at the edge of the dial at twelve-o-clock.

Several repair and information marks are to  the rear of the dial, G Berringer Oct-26-1876 working in Market St Falmouth 1873, also in Helston, Penzance, Redruth. E Blight, Oct 2nd 1843, Callington 1873, Wm B Symonds March 1856 Meneage St KD Helston, Maker Henry Sleeman 1830.

   In a West Briton newspaper 2nd August 1833 Henry Sleeman advertised for "A man who thoroughly understands clocks".

The above bracket clock has been fully restored and carries a 12 month guarantee.
