Edward Shepley Manchester (Circa 1790)

   A high quality solid and veneered mahogany case with fine cut moldings, brass ball and spike finials on a swan neck pediment to the break arch dial and hood.

   This eight day movement has a finely painted enamel arched moon phase dial with subsidiary seconds and date dials above and below the centre of the dial, with ornately cut and faceted blued steel hands.

   Hand painted corner spandrels showing different hunting scenes with the centre picture of two lovers in Georgian costume, Roman Numerals with small Arabic to the outer, signed on the bottom of the white chapter ring EDWd. Shepley Manchester Circa 1790.

   Mahogany turned columns to the hood with ionic brass capitals and solid Mahogany side panels.

   Partial inlay to the trunk, with reeded quarter columns, shaped trunk door and flame mahogany trunk base, all set on shallow ogee bracket feet.

   The above longcase clock has been fully restored and carries a 12 month guarantee.

Clock and watchmaker, Market St Lane in 1788 "Edward Shepley Junior" when he took an apprentice, John Chadwick on 21st May 1791 for 6½ years at £10-10s, Also took William Howarth on 2nd November 1791 and  Samuel Gibbons on 3rd March 1797 both for 7 years at £10-10s, at Bank Top by 1800 and at Piccadilly by 1805.

His clocks are very recognisable often with 'busy' dials painted with biblical or commemorative scenes, centre seconds and calendars, three or four-train movements, and rolling moons either in the arch or at 12o'clock, often in Gothic mahogany cases.
