Thomas Deykin Worcester, 30Hr, Oak with Mahogany, Ebony & Boxwood Inlay (Circa 1750).

   A rather unusual and excellent quality Oak Longcase Clock, 30 hour brass and silver dial (Circa 1750). inlaid with Burmese Mahogany, Ebony and Boxwood.

   The cornice around the hood has a caveto style mold with mahogany dentaling and banding below, mahogany veneer is also to the face of the square door of the hood which houses the four pillar movement, wound by a chain and pendulum driven, the 12" (305mm) brass and silvered chapter dial with matted centre has a strike silent lever positioned at the top of the dial, the hands are ornately pierced, blued steel, Gillows style tulip shaped pillars with brass capitals are to each side of the hood.

   Below the hood is a large Scotia style mold with a Burmese mahogany banding to the sides and front leading to the trunk below which has the matching edge banding.

   The trunk door has a raised staff bead all round, with Scotia shape swept corners and an edge banding within the beading to match the trunk. To the centre is an Ebony & Boxwood starburst inlay, this is also repeated to the centre of the base of the trunk, which also, has added vertical inlay set 1/3rd from each side within the width of the base and in each top corner is set a complimentary ebony and boxwood fan mold, all the above sits on a shaped plinth to the front and sides.

All the above has been fully restored and carries a 12 month guarantee.

Thomas Deykin was born in 1677 in Walsall in Staffordshire, the son of Samuel Deykin. He was married to Mary Meek on 27th December 1703 at the All Saints church in Worcester. His shop is thought to be in Broad Street, Worcester.
Thomas Deykin probably began clock making about the year 1698, when he was twenty-one years old.
