Thomas Gaskell Knutsford, (Circa 1795)

A fine example of an 8 day, Long Case clock with a Wilson painted, strawberry fruit and flower square dial, with an axe head moon aperture to the top half of the dial, showing phases of the moon with a date dial aperture below and ornately cut, blued steel hands.

A very traditional English oak case, the hood has brass capped, turned fluted pillars, below an elegant shaped blind fretwork panel, with a scratch moulded surround with ogee moulding above, encasing a substantial four pillar 8 day movement chiming on a bell.

The trunk has turned reeded quarter pillars to front corners with Doric capitals that match the pillars to the hood, full length shaped door and a base panel to match from quarter sawn oak, all with mahogany cross-banding, standing on ogee shaped feet, having an excellent colour throughout.

Thomas Gaskell is listed in G H Baillie's Watch and Clock makers Guide as a maker of clocks from (Circa 1784 to 1795)

The above Long case clock has been fully restored and carries a 12 month guarantee.
