Samuel Lomas, Poolton, movement (Circa 1770) New Case, Hooded Wall Clock 2008

A small oak hooded wall clock with an 8 1/2” (216mm) single hand, brass dial, signed Samuel Lomas, Poolton, this dial and movement are completely original and in a fully restored condition.

The movement is a 30 hour, however, if used none striking then it can run for 2 to 3 days. I decided to make this particular case as in my opinion the movement and dial are all the better for it as looked lost on the wall without a hood.

After researching similar styles of case's for this period, I sketched some designs and finally decided on this one.

The timber (English oak) has been worked in a traditional way including including the barley sugar twist columns, with pit sawn boards for the sides, which are then hand planed and accompanied by scratch moldings to the top and bottom of the hood.
