Shuffleboard

Shuffle board for Burnley Football Club

The Idea of a Shuffle board came from when the club visited America in 2009 and were quite taken with the game after they had been introduced to it whilst staying there.

Totally different from what I normally do and it was a bit of a head scratcher to say the least, but I thoroughly enjoyed doing it none the less.

All the basic frame structure was manufactured from English Oak, as you can see from the doweled corners which are a nice contrast between end grain of the dowels and projected corners, whilst the table was constructed from Maple in stick form and glued together so that it doesn't warp, contrary to what you may think it was not French Polished, but it did have special coatings to the surface of the table in order for it to work properly.

The pictures in the gallery below show the table complete and installed, the sand like substance, is special silicone granules that make the pucks glide like you wouldn't believe and the table top also has a mechanism to the underside, that enables an adjustable camber across the centre to the full length of the table.

The inlay work that I did at both ends of the table and to the centre was certainly different from repairing Conch Shell and other inlays, it was in the end quite a pleasure to do. I had the opportunity  to make this for someone who is on the board of directors at Burnley Football club, who knew what I did for a living.
