John Clarke, Black Ground, Lacquer Clock, Bury St Edmunds (Circa 1770)

    An Exquisitely proportioned, typical 18C, long door, black ground case, with gilt chinoiserie decoration.

    A well proportioned Long case clock, having chinoiserie decoration applied to an oak cabinet with triple gilt / jesso wooden finials.

    The 12” (305mm) break arch dial has two subsidiary dials inside the chapter ring, above and below the centre, an engraved star burst to the centre of seconds dial and an arched date dial below centre, also complete with the original blued steel, faceted hands, and strike / silent indicator to the arch.

   Signed distinctly, "John Clarke Bury St Edmunds" Circa 1770 to the centre of the dial.

   The Complete clock has been beautifully restored, stands 8’- 4” (2235mm) in height to the top centre finial and carries a 12 month guarantee.
