Longcase clock, by Peter Clare, Manchester, (Circa 1770)

A high quality solid and veneered Cuban mahogany case with fine cut moldings surmounted by rose carved roundels with Verre églomisé panels beneath the swan neck pediment, and above the break arch dial and hood.

This eight day movement with a brass dial and silvered chapter ring, painted arched moon phase dial, showing two country scenes alternately with the moon phases.

To the centre of the 13" (331mm) silver and brass dial is a most unusual engraved fan pattern, with subsidiary seconds and date dials above and below the centre, with ornately cut and faceted, blued steel hands. Rococo corner spandrels, with Roman numerals and Arabic to the outer.

Fluted mahogany turned columns to each side of the hood and trunk, with an Ogee section, hood door (generally associated with Manchester clocks) and solid mahogany side panels.

A purpose made, double Scotia mold, surrounds the flame mahogany shaped trunk door, all set on shallow ogee bracket feet. Signed on the top of the moon phase dial, "Peter Clare Manchester".

This clock has been fully restored and carries a twelve month guarantee
