Swinging Cherub Timepiece (Circa 1880)

An interesting pendulum clock and very attractive original gilt framed Swinging Cherub Timepiece (Circa 1880), on a Rococo Stand by Farcot of Paris.

A gilt cherub seated on a traditional design rope swing, is acting as the pendulum instead of a conventional side to side action, for this to occur a special form of duplex escapement is required and can clearly be seen at the rear of the movement, (please see movement pictures in the Gallery below).

The Dial which is white enamel with roman numerals has an open aperture giving a partial view of the skeletonised movement and hollow moon shaped hands.

All is placed on a complementary rust coloured velour cloth base under the original glass dome, on an ebonised base unit with adjustable feet to each corner in order to allow the correct setting for the clock.

The back plate is marked 'Echappement Brevet, P20, 36 39097', and a shield with star and anchor (Farcot trademark).

The above item has been sympathetically restored and carries a twelve month guarantee.
